Cundi
While Cundī is less well known in Tibetan Buddhism, she is revered in Tángmì or East Asian esoteric Buddhism. In China, she is known as Zhǔntí Púsà or Zhǔntí Fómǔ , "Junje" in Korean, while in Japan she is known as Jundiai Kannon. In late imperial China, the early traditions of Tangmi were still thriving in Buddhist communities. Robert Gimello has also observed that in these communities, the esoteric practices of Cundī were extremely popular among both the populace and the elite.

Antique Finishing
This is an antique patina-finished Chundi. This is not an antique statue. It is just an antique patina finish. This Chundi is a testament to the artisan's mastery of the art of aging. Its antique patina has been meticulously crafted to give the appearance of an aged statue, showcasing the artist's unique techniques and skills. Through undisclosed processes and careful aging treatments, the Chundi undergoes a transformation that captures the essence of time and history.
This art form is shrouded in secrecy, as each artisan holds their own closely guarded formulas and methods. With deep knowledge of materials and an artistic sensibility, they skillfully replicate the natural aging process, infusing the Chundi with a sense of authenticity and character. The result is a captivating piece that tells a visual story, evoking a bygone era and adding a touch of allure to any space.
The artist's dedication to creating an aged aesthetic goes beyond mere appearance. It is a deliberate and intentional effort to give the Chundi a unique identity, imbued with the charm and beauty of time. With every carefully applied treatment and artistic touch, the Chundi becomes a work of art that not only stands as a testament to the artisan's skill but also carries a sense of history and narrative, making it truly exceptional.

Ceramic Molding System
The Chundi has been crafted using the Ceramic mold casting process, a modern approach that provides an alternative to traditional methods such as the lost-wax system or rubber molding. Also referred to as ceramic molding, this technique involves the creation of a ceramic mold to cast the statue. The process begins by making a precise and detailed wax model of the desired sculpture. The wax model is then coated with layers of ceramic material, creating a sturdy mold. Once the mold is complete, it is fired in a kiln, causing the wax to melt and escape, leaving behind a cavity that perfectly replicates the original sculpture. Molten metal is then poured into the mold, allowing it to fill the cavity and take on the desired form. Once cooled and solidified, the ceramic mold is carefully broken away, revealing the final metal statue.
Contrary to common assumptions, this statue of Chundi is not only created through the ceramic mold casting process but is also 100% hand-finished in Nepal. Skilled artisans in Nepal bring their expertise and attention to detail to add the final touches and refine the sculpture by hand. The city of Patan, renowned for its artistic heritage and craftsmanship, takes pride in being the place where this statue is entirely made. This adds a touch of authenticity and cultural significance to the artwork, as it carries the essence of the artistic traditions and craftsmanship of Patan. The combination of the modern ceramic mold casting process, the meticulous hand-finishing in Nepal, and the artistic legacy of Patan ensures that this statue of Chundi is a unique and captivating piece of art.
